Ingredion collaborates with AI and microbiome startups to accelerate functional ingredient discovery

Ingredion announced partnerships with US startups Shiru and Holobiome to accelerate the discovery of next-generation functional ingredients, notably prebiotics for gut health.
Shiru uses its proprietary AI platform to identify functional protein candidates, which are then evaluated by Holobiome for their impact on the gut microbiome using large-scale datasets.

baCta raised €7M to scale high-value ingredients made via precision fermentation

baCta, a French startup, raised €7M to scale production of astaxanthin via precision fermentation, an antioxidant used in health, nutrition, cosmetics, and animal feed.
It targets pilot and commercial validation with a French industrial partner and commercialisation by 2027.
It will also expand its AI-powered bioproduction platform to accelerate microbial strain development and enable the production of additional high-value molecules.
